The Penang International Airport will undergo RM700 million in upgrading works, which will be carried out in several phases. Under Phase 1, approximately RM30 million will be allocated to the optimisation of current airport inefficiencies such as long queues at the immigration counter. Phase 2 entails the construction of a RM90 million seven storey car park, which is anticipated to be completed by 2019. Phase 3 tentatively involves the construction of an outlet similar to the Mistui Outlet Park near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, whilst the airport expansion in Phase 4 has a projected completion in four years.
